"A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself...to see the higher part of yourself when sometimes it becomes hidden to your own view." ~ Oprah Winfrey
SB Mentoring is our school-based mentoring program at Chamberlin, Orchard, Rick Marcotte Central, F.H. Tuttle Middle, and South Burlington High Schools in the South Burlington School District that matches caring, respectful adults in the community one-on-one with wonderful young people in grades K through 12 to help young people find their "sparks": their passions and interests. We value to research of the Search Institute on developmental assets and use that information as the foundation of the program: http://www.search-institute.org/research/developmental-assets.In its tenth year, SB Mentoring has grown to become a community of 120 people: 60 young leaders and 60 mentors. The voices of young leaders, the young people in the program, are highly valued in steering the direction of SB Mentoring and the activities, community service projects, and field trips that we do.
SB Mentoring believes that, in the words of one of our mentors, mentors "learn just as much -- if not more -- from our young leaders as they learn from us."
